About the “School of Schools” project

The project idea was proposed by Nikolay and Tatiana Selivanov, founders and heads of the Art Design Workshop.

The children’s museum-educational project “School of Schools” is based on the triad “School – Museum – IT”. The main goal of the project is to develop a methodology for describing, studying, and creatively interpreting authentic museum objects by teenagers. The material that students collect while studying a monument, as well as the knowledge and experience they gain, serve as the necessary scientific foundation for creating a new creative information product. In this format, the first “School of Schools” took place in September 2015 during the ADIT conference in Vologda.

Since 2016, the “School of Schools” project has been carried out together with izi.TRAVEL (now tmatic.travel). Teenagers who participate in studios and clubs at museums develop and record thematic audio guides themselves and upload them to the platform. The participants choose objects or locations, prepare interesting stories about them with the help of curators, draw illustrations, record the stories on a voice recorder or in a studio, and publish the audio guides for public access.

Over the years of the project, thousands of users have used the audio guides, and their feedback shows that the project is in demand and helps everyone, especially children, to get acquainted with museum collections and learn the history of their hometowns.

2016–2023

Audio guides created under the project in 2016–2023 are hosted on the izi.TRAVEL platform.

• Yelabuga (ADIT 2016): 3 museum and 2 outdoor guides. Video about the project

• Saratov (ADIT 2018): museum audio guide and outdoor tour connecting all buildings of the Radishchev Museum

• Yekaterinburg (ADIT 2019): 70 interviews with eyewitnesses about life in the 1990s (based on the Yeltsin Center exhibition). Video about the project

• Vladivostok (ADIT 2021): guide to the exhibition of the Arsenyev Museum. Video about the project

• Kaliningrad (ADIT 2022): 2 quests between the Zoo and the Art Museum

• Murmansk (ADIT 2023): guide to the exhibition of the Regional Museum. Video about the project

2024

In 2024, izi.TRAVEL launched a new portal, tmatic.travel, and from that moment all newly created audio guides are published on this platform.

In Omsk, during the ADIT 2024 conference, with financial support from the V. Potanin Charitable Foundation, the following were created for the Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts named after M. A. Vrubel:

• audio performance for children “Muzya and Marusya”

• audio quest “Researcher of Eras”

2025

Audio guides developed in Krasnoyarsk and Yeniseysk for the XXIX ADIT conference:

• “A Journey along Bolshaya Street” – audio performance by the Yeniseysk Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve named after A. I. Kytmanov

• “Go, Children, for a Walk in Africa” – by the Krasnoyarsk Regional Museum of Local Lore

• “5 Favorite Works of Teenagers” – by the Krasnoyarsk Art Museum named after V. I. Surikov

• “Crocodile, Crutch, Hoe” – by the Museum Centre “Ploshchad Mira”
