In May 1996, the Founding Conference of ADIT was held at the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow). Several important steps were taken, the most important of which were the approval of the ADIT Regulations and the survey of participants (i.e., the beginning of collecting data for the future database of specialists).
"The Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums is interested in Russia's active participation in the activities of the CIDOC International Committee. Russia must enter the third millennium with a developed museum information infrastructure. To achieve this goal, it is essential, first and foremost, to unite Russian professional efforts in the field of museum informatics. The Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums undoubtedly welcomes the timely initiative to establish ADIT. The association should unite museum informatics professionals in Russia, hold an annual national conference, and actively participate in the activities of the CIDOC International Committee. The Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums hopes that ADIT's activities will result in Russian museums actively adopting the latest advances in information technology, creating a unified information space for Russian museums, and actively joining global museum networks."
From a speech by ICOM Russia President I.A. Rodimtseva at the ADIT Founding Conference (Moscow, May 14, 1996).
